Publishing can be slow

My father and I had an idea to conceptually separate the amount of discounting of the future (i.e. how much total weight to put on a constant stream of benefits) from the speed of discounting (i.e., fixing that amount, when in the future the weight accrues). So we decided to write a paper about it. This was over 16 years ago. That paper, after several iterations, was published today.

You can read it here.

If I understood discounting better and didn’t want to embarrass myself or you, I could venture something clever about about the discounted value of the tuition being sent to CalTech 16 years ago being realized today. However, I’ll just stick with how proud and pleased I am.
